Sam Shepard’s Heartless Extends Off-Broadway Before Opening

The world premiere of Sam Shepard’s Heartless has extended through September 30. Starring Gary Cole, Julianne Nicholson and two-time Tony nominee Lois Smith, Heartless is set to open August 27 at the Irene Diamond Stage in off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the production was originally set to conclude September 16.

Heartless is the story of Sally (Nicholson), a woman who lives with her mysterious family in a cavernous home that overlooks Los Angeles. When her friend Roscoe (Cole) comes to visit, Sally’s dark secrets, and the secrets of those around her, threaten to rise to the surface. In addition to Cole as Roscoe, Nicholson as Sally and Smith as Mable, Heartless stars Jenny Bacon as Lucy and Betty Gilpin as Elizabeth.

The Heartless creative team includes scenic designer Eugene Lee, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau and sound designer Eric Shimelonis.
